Meet Lindsay (aka Maman Loup)

About Maman Loup

Maman Loup means Mommy Wolf in French. I have four children, and they are the inspiration behind this blog.

Based in Montréal, Québec since 2008, my family and I moved to Calgary, Alberta in April 2015 where we are now settled. Originally from Surrey, BC, it feels great being closer to home! I live with my husband, son, daughter, twin boys and 2 cats. (Known as Cub, Miss Cub, Cub Twin A & Cub Twin B on the blog!)

Before becoming a Maman, I was already an eco-conscious chatterbox and a high school teacher: having my first baby, known online as Cub, just gave my eco-conscious chattering and love of teaching a focus.

I had previously attempted a foray into “green living” blogging, but I think the possibilities were just too vast for me: I didn’t know where to start. And honestly, when I first started up my blog, I gave up because I didn’t know where to start. I had so much to say about balancing my desire to live sustainably and to also be a parent (some might argue that you can’t do both).  I felt like I would never be able to get all of my ideas across succinctly and during the brief intervals of “free time” with a newborn baby.

As has been the case for as long as I can remember, my head just gets way too full if I don’t download some of the kookiness up there either by talking or writing. I remember as a child wishing I could just hook a printer up to my brain so I’d have all my ideas on paper. Instead, I became a ridiculously fast typist. So I came back to my desire to start a blog, and instead of trying to download all of my ideas immediately (since I still don’t have that USB jack installed in the nape of my neck), I let myself start with just one teensy weensy blog post.

My blog first took flight thanks to the online community of cloth diapering. After 10 years and 4 children, our cloth diapering journey is over. But my blog has never just been about fluffy butts.

I like to call what I blog about “Eco-Parenting,” where “Eco” stands for both “Economical” and “Ecological.” No matter where you are in your greener living or parenting journey, you can hopefully find useful information here. Spend less money and make less waste, all while keeping your sanity!

My blog began in 2012, and I passed the 10-year bloggiversary with little fanfare because, well, did I mention I have 4 children? I am now back to work as a substitute teacher at my children’s school, and I am also active as a Car Seat Technician at my other business, Car Seat Cubs.

  1. Lindsay,

It’s great to see how your online work has evolved – starting form the blog to actually maintaining different social media accounts. By now you are probably glad you never gave up.

Congrats on your hard work and excellent parenting skills – you will show your baby what hard-work can accomplish from the beginning.
