Canadian Great Cloth Diaper Change 2017 Locations

What on earth is the Great Cloth Diaper Change? Well, every year around Earth Day, cloth-diapering parents and the cloth-curious gather in cities around the world to simultaneously change their babies into a cloth diaper! Why? To raise awareness about cloth diapering and to set a world record!

My first Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC) was in Montréal in 2013 with my son. The following year, I helped Bummis organize the event for fellow Montréal parents! In 2015, I was in transit to Calgary so we couldn’t attend, and in 2016 I was there with Little Miss Cub in her Maman Loup diaper.

How the GCDC plays out at each location varies, but typically you’re looking at an informal gathering of like-minded parents in a community space, cloth diaper boutique or (if you live in a warmer climate) outdoors. Local and national retailers sponsor these events, providing door prizes and swag for gift bags. Many events also feature vendor booths for some cloth-inspired shopping.

At 11 AM on the dot (local time), all caregivers change their babies into a cloth diaper and hold up their progeny like so many baby Simbas for a commemorative official photo. Witnesses must sign off on the exact number of participants so each location can contribute to the worldwide total.

It’s a really fun way to get to know other parents in your area who love to cloth diaper, and for those who may be curious about cloth but have never tried it, most events have an information session and cloth diapers to lend! Why not make your baby’s first cloth diaper a record-setting diaper?
