You know which of my pre-motherhood hobbies I miss most? Napping. My husband and I used to be renowned for our ability to nap for long periods of time without interfering with our bedtime. And no, napping is not a euphemism. I love my bed. Throughout university, I did most of my homework in my bed (also not a euphemism) and ate a good portion of my meals there. I’ve only recently stopped working from bed … because I’m getting old and my wrists are beginning to complain about non-ergonomic typing situations.
Now that our bed is decked out in bedface sheets, I love it even more! And when I say “our,” I don’t mean mine and my husband’s—I mean mine and my toddler’s! Oh yes, I am living the glamorous life of a co-sleeping mama whose husband is a painfully light sleeper. And you know what? I’m okay with it. Little Miss won’t be in our bed forever, and since I’ve had to abandon my napping habit, not having to stumble out of my bed to nurse my toddler helps me get enough sleep at night. Many nights, my preschooler climbs in too, so I’m certainly not short on snuggles!
I chose a bedface queen Sleep Set in Royalty. One of the first things I noticed about shopping at bedface.ca is that you can buy either a Super Sleep Set, which comes with a fitted sheet, flat sheet, duvet cover and two pillow cases; a regular Sleep Set that comes without the flat sheet; or you can buy each component individually. I don’t know about you, but my linen closet is where flat sheets go to die. I always thought using a flat sheet was such a grown-up way to make the bed … but flat sheets just wind up crumpled up at the foot of the bed, right?
When our sheets arrived, I was pleased to find them minimally packaged. Most sheets I’ve bought come packaged in plasticky-smelling PVC envelopes that get thrown away. Our bedface sheets came neatly wrapped in brown paper—no PVC in sight.
Also, there was popcorn.
I adored the colours of the Royalty set online, and in person I love them even more. They match our nursing/body pillow and our Peapod mat perfectly! (Please disregard the hideous burgundy of our master bedroom wall: it was like that when we moved in and we are very lazy about home décor.)
The bedface fitted sheet is generously sized and plenty deep enough to cover our mattress without riding up at the edges. Plus, it has a little tag to remind you of your #lifegoals.
Bedface sheets are made with their proprietary facetech cotton. They describe it as “the perfect combination of quality, breathability, durability, and softness.” Sheets come prewashed, and you’ll notice a matte finish that “feels slightly thicker and more textured than traditional bedding.” I didn’t read bedface’s description of their fabric until after I’d slept in the sheets for many nights and found myself struggling to describe what exactly was different about them. The words that were coming to mind as I lay squished between my kids were “substantial” and “satisfying.” Go one letter forward in the alphabet and you get bedface’s chosen adjectives of “thicker” and “textured.”
Their sheets are made with long-staple 100% cotton which prevents pilling and tearing, which is a problem I had with bedding purchased from a Swedish competitor. Facetech fabric is woven with “thicker yarns in a looser weave,” which makes bedface sheets more breathable. This is a must when you are sharing your sheets with two miniature space heaters. If they can also incorporate fart-neutralizing technology, they’ll dominate the bedding industry for sure.
Every so often I get to enjoy a nap in our bedface sheets, but it’s rarely a solo one.
Bedface is headquartered in Vancouver, BC, which means Canadians get to shop in Canadian dollars and avoid duty charges. Flat rate shipping of just $9 is worth it if I don’t have to enter a department store or, worse, a specialty home décor boutique. Americans, fear not, they have a US site in USD and a US headquarters in Washington!
Bedface offers a 100-night guarantee: sleep on your sheets for 100 nights and if you are not completely satisfied, return them for a full refund. Sheets that are returned are passed on to local shelters. Their snaps are also backed by a lifetime warranty.
