Jujube BFF Diaper Bag Review - Maman Loup's Den

I did not own an actual diaper bag with Cub. I very happily used a regular backpack. An expensive, outdoorsy kind of backpack, mind you, but a backpack none the less. I was determined to not own a diaper bag.

But a Ju-Ju-Be? How could I say no? It’s like the Tula of the diaper bag world: it’s got clout in the Mommiverse. (Coincidentally, I also got my first Tula from Natalie at Lagoon Baby.)

And yes, I am rocking my Ju-Ju-Be BFF. As soon as it arrived, it was Operation Organize My Diaper Bag. It took me an hour to decide just how I wanted to stock it.

Jujube BFF open view

Spacious? My goodness, yes it is. What makes the BFF massively more user-friendly as a diaper bag than my trusty backpack is that the main compartment fully opens to give me full access to everything I need:

Jujube BFF Main Storage Compartment

What am I packing? Spare trainers for Cub, five diaper changes for Little Miss Cub (we were packed for a day-long outing), a change of clothes for each of them, a couple toys, ample wipes, a few snacks, plus my things (wallet, cell phone, keys, sunglasses, etc.).

Jujube BFF What's insideOn both sides of the bag, you’ve got an insulated, stretchy pocket. I cannot leave the house without a bottle of water, so one pouch is for me. (Cub usually shares with me when he’s thirsty.) The other pocket is for my jumbo sunglasses.

The front of the bag has a small zippered pocket where I usually keep a cloth shopping bag. There’s also a larger zippered section for all my stuff:

Jujube BFF Key Fob

As a serial key loser, the key fob is a must. There’s room for my clutch/wallet (which I take out on its own if I get to leave the house without children), a zippered spot for spare nursing pads and a pantyliner and a mini wetbag, plus my cellphone.

Jujube BFF Cell phone pouch

If you have a reasonably-sized cell phone (like, not an iPhone 6+), it can go in the little pouch!

On the back of the bag is a pocket for the included memory-foam changing pad (I often just use it for papers and a receiving blanket).

I don’t know if you’ve noticed yet, but this bag is strappy. And I mean that in the best possible way. It has an adjustable, removable and padded shoulder strap that allows you to wear it messenger style or just over one shoulder. The straps are all attached with sturdy metal pieces.

Jujube BFF Removable shoulder strap

The shoulder strap also allows the bag to hang nicely on your stroller:

My favourite way to wear my BFF? As a backpack, of course! It’s the BEST way to carry your bag when you’re babywearing!

Hands free is the way to be, people! And if you don’t want so many straps and only plan on carrying it one way, just unclip the straps you aren’t using.

Other reasons this bag is my BFF:

  • So very washable. As in, machine washable. (Air dry)
  • Structured bottom with luggage feet so the bag isn’t sitting right on the ground.
  • Teflon™ fabric protector to reduce staining.
  • Agion® treatment protects the liner by inhibiting the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew.
  • Crumb Drains… ya… tiny openings in the bag’s base to drain out crumbs!
  • Inner lining is light coloured, so you can see what’s in there.
  • This well-known brand will resell well once you’re past the diaper bag phase (though you can totally rock this as an exercise bag or for work).

If there’s one thing I would change about my BFF, it would be to have the front “Mom” pouch be about an inch deeper. I have an obscenely large set of keys (mainly because I like key chains) and a jumbo smart phone, so a bit more room would help!

totally impressed by the amount of stuff you’re able to cram in! And that key fob toggle is awesome – my keys always end up being the last thing I pull out of a bag otherwise!

  2. Leeanne Lachance

I am beyond impressed about the amount fo items you can easily fit into this bag..I really like how it doesn’t look overly stuffed once you pt whatever is needed for a daily outing into this bag..I’d definitely wear this bag and would recommend it to my friends & family..A Huge Thanks for doing this review, being very detailed in this review really helped me with my usual thousand questions lolz..

Now could you carry cloth for 2 on a short (3-4 hours) outing and an all day outing and still fit it all? Including the wipes, wet bags, change of clothes and wallet, keys etc?

This diaper bag looks so spacious and organized. I love the fact that your review is well thought out and in detail for those Mamas considering purchasing a JuJuBe BFF.It looks like a great option for cloth diapering Parents. The only reason I would choose my Skip Hop Duo over the BFF is the stroller straps with buckles. The stroller straps are a must in my book. Thanks for your review Lindsay.

I absolutely love Ju ju be! I’m saving up to buy a BFF ? We’ve gone through two or three diaper bags since my son was born last May, and I’m pretty sure I’ve narrowed down exactly what I need!

I need this in my life!

I have two jujube bags and my only complaints are that the drink pockets don’t hold a drink if the bag is jostled (my toddler’s straw cup falls out every time I put it in there), and the inside pockets need zippers or some sort of closure or they’re next to pointless.

Wow! Looks like an amazing bag! My friend has one, so jealous! Also love your chantilly 😉

I have a JJB BFF that has been going strong for 5 yrs now! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the brand to anyone.

I have the jujube be prepared, I love it but it is much to big for baby wearing. I love the backpack option of the bff.

  14. Where has this bag been all my life!!!!! I love how much you can get in it without it being bulky

  16. […] I agonised over this purchase for months. You see, I have a soft spot for fashion. And most diaper bags look like, well, diaper bags. I love putting my little guy in cute animal prints. But I’m an adult. I feel silly carrying a bag covered in rubber duckies. So I splurged on a bag I love because it helps me feel like me, not just mommy. What bag you choose will depend on your personal style, but there are some things you should keep in mind. You want lots of pockets to fit all the mom-stuff you’ll find yourself carrying. Also, all that stuff adds up. The bag contents will be heavy, so go for a bag that’s relatively lightweight—I ruled out leather for this reason. You’ll want something waterproof and easy to clean because babies are always getting liquids into the strangest places. Finally, I think it helps to have more than one way to carry the bag because your shoulders (and everything else) will get sore caring for a baby. My bag has shoulder straps as well as an option for a cross-body carry. I am obsessed with my Ika bag, even if I still sometimes cringe when I think about how much I spent on it. It was a gift to myself, something that helps me feel better when my yoga pants have spit-up on them and I haven’t managed to wash my hair. [Read about Maman Loup’s favourite diaper bag] […]
