Satva Organic Clothing: Clothing With a Cause

I received this items at no cost in exchange for my review. All opinions remain my own.

Come December, it will mark exactly four years that I have been either pregnant or nursing. And guess what? My wardrobe has had to accommodate my being either pregnant or nursing for just as long. It’s not glamorous, and sometimes it gets kind of boring. I feel like I’m looking at nice clothes for myself and thinking, “Well, maybe when the kids are older.” With Satva, I’ve found the perfect compromise between style and comfort, and feel like I am supporting a company whose principles are in line with my own!

In Sanskrit, Satva is “a state of mind in which the mind is steady, calm and peaceful.” My life might not be steady, calm or peaceful with Little Miss Cub attached to me and Cub trailing behind me like a shadow, but if I can find a way to be comfortable in my Mommy duties and also feel somewhat put together, then that’s all I can hope for!

California-based Satva makes its yoga-inspired line of colourful and versatile clothing from GOTS certified organic cotton and prides itself on environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing. Their pieces are affordable and ethical: say goodbye to fast fashion, and make a statement with Satva!

Who says yoga-inspired says perfect for stay-at-home Moms who don’t have time to do yoga. Pre-motherhood, I totally did yoga, but I was thoroughly opposed to leggings as pants. Nowadays, a yoga session uninterrupted by children is nothing but a daydream, but I basically do not wear pants that aren’t leggings.

The two pieces I chose for review were the Shark Bite Hoodie and Mantra Leggings. The leggings are 95% organic cotton and 5% lycra, so they’re soft and stretchy. I was a total chicken and chose the plain black model, but I want to point out how crazy cool their colourful, India-inspired prints are:

Next time, I’m going to take the plunge and abandon boring old black! The Mantra Leggings aren’t quite as thick as I would like for pairing with shorter tops, but for under tunics and dresses, they are just right!

The Shark Bite Hoodie is tunic length, so perfect for pairing with leggings. I’m about 5’8″ tall, so the size small is not quite the perfect length for me (I’d love it to fall below my crotch), but I feel really awesome in it just the same. Thanks to an unseasonably warm Satuday, I wore it for our family day out, celebrating my birthday!

The length of the hoodie is perfect for baby wearing: no exposed tummy or back skin because the top doesn’t wind up bunched under the carrier’s waistband. For nursing, the fact that the shirt is loose makes it easy to scrunch up, and with a nursing tank underneath (given the weave of the fabric, you need a tank layered anyway), the drape of the top actually provides some privacy, which is nice when you are nursing, standing up (it’s the only way she’ll have it) in the middle of the playground.

Why Choose Clothing from Satva:

  • Trace-ability: Satva’s holistic vision starts with the well-being of the farmers who grow the organic cotton used in their designs.
  • With each purchase, money is given back to these farming communities in founder Puja Barar’s home country of India.
  • Organic farming practices are safer for the environment, the workers and the consumer.

I have to know what your darling is wearing in the nursing pic? That sweater with the hand covers?? So precious. Thanks ?

You know, it’s just a second-hand baby gap cardigan and the sleeves were pulled over her hands! But I wish all baby wear had fold over mittens because she always scratches herself!

  3. I’d never heard of Satva before this. It looks awesome! I’d love to check out those fun patterned leggings!
