One of the last things I needed for Little Miss Cub before she was born was a mobile. I remembered how big brother Cub would lie in his crib, hypnotized by his mobile while I puttered around the apartment. I knew I wanted something involving no batteries, and ideally no plastic. Cub’s mobile had a motor which broke, and after unsuccessful attempts at repairing it, it wound up in the trash (and I HATE putting stuff in the trash).
Sarah Wilson from Crocheting by Sarah reached out to me on my page to propose a crocheted mobile for my girl. I told her our nursery (which is shared with Cub) would be somewhat woodland-themed, and she sent us a colourful mobile featuring four captivating forest creatures:
Baby development is so fascinating! At exactly two months old, Little Miss noticed her forest friends:
When she was younger, it was obvious she was totally oblivious to them, despite big brother’s attempts at catching her attention:
Now, since we co-sleep, Little Miss isn’t in her crib too often. The time of day when our mobile comes in handy is when I’m getting big brother ready for bed. They share a room, so I place Little Miss Cub in her crib and she contentedly coos at her menagerie while I negotiate the boy into bed.
I love that when Little Miss is too big for a mobile over her crib, we can always remove the little animal friends and she can have them as stuffies. Alternatively, it could hang as decoration in the corner of the kids’ room. Colourful but with no unnecessary (and irritating) bells and whistles, we love our Crocheting by Sarah custom mobile!
