My 5-month-old son refuses to wear a hat, which makes winter in Canada pretty darn difficult. In his infant car seat, I can keep most of him covered with my car seat cover, but his little ears and hands still get chilly. I was pretty excited to try out my Goumikids set when I saw that the hat had a unique shape to it, one that would keep his head covered no matter how much he fussed in protest.
Goumikids was started by two high school BFFs-turned-moms. Their bamboo/organic cotton blend hats, mittens and booties are all designed with functionality in mind, and they are both incredibly soft, and extremely adorable. The graphic patterns and bright colours match every item in my son’s wardrobe, and although it’s recommended to handwash them, I had no problems tossing them in with the rest of our laundry.
The aviator-style hat covered my son’s whole head, from his forehead to the nape of his neck, and his whole ears, without shifting around and smothering him like most hats have done. When he got a rash on his hands from his thumb sucking, I was able to put ointment on them and cover them with the mittens, which stayed securely in place with the Velcro straps.
And my favourite item, the booties, are not only super cute, but stay on no matter how much he kicks his little legs.
The Goumikids newborn set, which includes all 3 items, is a perfect gift for a baby shower, and is reasonably priced at $40 USD.
A Company that Gives Back
Possibly one of the best aspects of Goumikids is their Goumigiving initiative. Since 2010, they have been donating part of their proceeds to efforts both locally and globally that work to improve the lives of women and girls. You can check out their website to see how they have given back!
