As you know, I’ve made some sincere attempts at banishing one-time use plastic from our home. We’re not completed cured of our plastic addiction, but one of the easiest things to ditch has been Ziploc bags for snacks and storage.
There are lots of brands that make reusable snack pouches, and the design is similar across the board. Aside from the obvious quality of the work(wo)manship on these reusable pouches, what stands out for my about these creations from BC-based Nic & Elli is the addition of a strap with a snap closure and the possibility of adding customized embroidery. I can use the strap to secure a pouch around the handles of my purse, that way it doesn’t become lost in the abyss that is my bag. I can also use it to hang a bag I’ve rinsed out to dry from a cupboard handle. The embroidery is perfect for families: each child can have his or her own assigned bags, and is slightly less likely to lose them if they’re neatly and brightly named!
We took our Nic & Elli bags on our recent plane trip:
We used the “Sandwich” sized bag (7” x 6.5”) for our passports and travel documents. (I wasn’t forward thinking enough to make sandwiches for the plane…
We used the “Snack” sized bag (6” x 4”) for our wash cloths.
We used the “Cosmetic” sized bag (10″ x 8″) for Cub’s drawing kit: a little notebook, pencil crayons and stickers.
I am keeping the cosmetic sized one as Cub’s permanent “doodle kit,” since I can easily toss it in my purse in case he needs a little activity on outings. My snack and sandwich bags are getting used for wipes, snacks, mama cloth and whatever else I might have used a Ziploc bag for in the past.
Yvonne at Nic & Elli also makes bibs, diapers and “Nicoloons” (those awesome, stretchy pants that go perfectly over cloth diapers). You can shop with her on Etsy, and use code MLD10 to save 10%!
