I received this product free for review. All opinions remain my own.
If you read my Funky Fluff Bamboo 2.0 review, you’ll know I described the fit as exquisite. Well, the newly launched Funky Fluff Stay Dry 2.0 has the same superb fit with all the benefits of a stay-dry layer for baby’s sensitive foufounes! (That’s French for tushy… I wanted to use another word starting with F, and I hate the word “fanny.”)
Overall, I prefer a stay dry (synthetic) layer in my pocket diapers because I think it’s simply more comfortable for Cub. For me, the best combination is actually a stay-dry pocket stuffed with a natural fiber! And guess what?! Unlike many brands, Funky Fluff lets you have the best of both worlds. Often times when I buy a pocket diaper, I simply don’t use the microfiber inserts sold with it and swap them out for natural fibers. Funky Fluff is now offering customers the chance to order their shells and inserts separately, meaning you CAN buy a stay-dry shell and still have bamboo inserts. Or, if you prefer a different insert all together but love the fit of Funky Fluff, you’re not wasting money on inserts you won’t use.
Funky Features of the new Stay Dry 2.0:
- There’s a snap at the front and the back, so you choose where/if you snap in your inserts, and if you hate searching for and matching up your inserts, leave them snapped (on either side) to the shell after you untuck them (I don’t find inserts come clean when left inside the pocket). When they come out of the wash, the inserts are still attached (functioning kind of like a TotsBots Easy Fit). Note that I only recommend leaving the inserts snapped in if you have a front loader. The agitator in traditional top loaders will pull at the inserts and cause unnecessary wear on the snaps.
- The microfiber inserts are topped with stay-dry fleece material, meaning it is safe to use against baby’s bottom (think BumGenius “Flip” inserts). Because of this, you can use your pocket shell like an all-in-two (although, as I’ve said many times, the most useful AI2 is one that has a wipeable inner). However, since the inner of the pocket shell isn’t absorbent, it’s more conducive to reuse by just changing the insert compared to the bamboo shell. You can also pair your Funky Fluff inserts with other diaper shells (they fit PERFECTLY in my Best Bottom shells!)
- This diaper has a super high rise and is extra trim between the legs. My Cub doesn’t ever get a plumber’s crack in his Funky Fluff, and he doesn’t have too much bulk between his legs.
As for absorbency, one insert is plenty for us, but I might use the second if I know it’ll be a longer time than usual before I can change him.
I truly love our Funky Fluff 2.0s: they are the trimmest fit of any of the diapers in our stash, particularly between the legs. I know some parents are concerned that bulky fluff will make their kids bow-legged (it won’t), but with Funky Fluff’s design, there’s no concern at all!
