Since I’ve been selected as one of David Suzuki’s Queen of Green “Green Coaches” for 2014, on Wednesdays I post my favourite ways to waste less…. #wasteLESSwednesday is my super hashtag.
Through some experimentation, I finally made a bum balm with a soft enough texture for easy application, even when it’s cold out!
Homemade Bum Balm Recipe
2 tbsp grated beeswax
1/3 cup coconut oil
about 1/8 cup each of almond oil and shea butter (I put a dollop of shea butter in a 1/4 cup measuring cup, then fill with almond oil)
20 drops lavender essential oil
20 drops tea tree essential oil
Put all ingredients except the essential oils in a Mason jar, and partially submerge the jar in boiling water. Stir occasionally to help melt and blend the ingredients.
Once the mixture is homogeneous, let it cool a bit before adding your essential oils. Then, pour into containers!
Making your own bum balm means reusing containers and buying ingredients in bulk, plus eliminating the shipping of the manufactured product to a retailer and then finally to you. It’s also less expensive… so, that’s what I’ve included it in #wasteLESSwednesday!
