Here at Maman Loup’s Den I do not shy away from topics that might make some women blush. Pooping my pants? Told you about it. Light bladder leakage? Check. Excessive discharge? Covered it multiple times. Menstruation? You’re bloody right. You might even say that below-the-belt bodily excretions are one of my favourite topics: collecting them, cleaning them, accepting them…demystifying them. Ever eager to crush taboos around everything vaginal and circumvent my own propensity to use cutesy nicknames for my reproductive organs, today I’m going to talk about those times you want to feel wet in your undies…times when vaginal dryness is a pain in the, well, vagina.
Vaginal dryness is not unique to Grace and Frankie. I’m a long way from menopause, and I’ve experienced it. (Has my dad stopped reading yet?) Besides menopause and peri-menopause, vaginal dryness can be caused by stress, pregnancy, certain medications, menstruation, post-natal hormone shifts or IVF treatments.
Another topic I’ve been very open about is my use of anti-depressants. A very common side effect of anti-depressants is vaginal dryness. It’s also a common side effect of birth control. I’ve been on both an anti-depressant AND the pill at many times in my life. If you’re taking anti-depressants, you’re likely treating anxiety and/or depression. You already feel pretty low, so when you’re feeling well enough emotionally to get busy in the bedroom and your body isn’t cooperating physically, it can be devastating. Suddenly, you have another focus for your anxiety.
Vagisil ProHydrate Natural Feel Moisturizing Gel relieves vaginal dryness with a fast-acting, bio-adherent formula that coats the vaginal wall to provide instant relief while continuing to release moisture over time. Without added estrogen, perfumes, dyes or preservatives, ProHydrate contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring moisturizer already found in the skin. Hyaluronic acid—which an up-selling esthetician told me I should be applying to my face if I don’t want to get wrinkly—holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water and is naturally hydrophilic. (Boom! Look at me getting all scientific!)
Although discreet is not my middle name (it’s Sarah, if you were wondering), the pre-filled ProHydrate applicator is designed to be subtle … unless you snap a bathroom selfie (#Vagisil), only you know you’re using it.
Since switching to reusable menstrual products, I’ve really nipped vaginal itch in the bud. Although, I’m not sure what causes me more psychosomatic itching—writing about Vagisil Anti-Itch Crème or writing about lice. If you do have an itch that you really cannot scratch in public (Why do men get away with crotch scratching and we don’t?), Vagisil’s Extra Strength Anti-Itch Crème will bring fast relief.
So here’s the thing, ladies: If you’ve got discomfort instead of a party in your panties, don’t despair. We’ve all been there, and Vagisil has treatment options available at your local pharmacy. Consult your healthcare provider without shame for persistent problems, and advocate for your own vaginal health with confidence!
