People Footwear: For People, Big and Small!

Slip on, slip off, but never fall off. That’s the beauty of my children’s new shoes from People Footwear. “Mom, I like these shoes because I don’t have to do up any straps!” says my budding product reviewer. My not-quite-talking-yet toddler expresses her approval by bringing me her light lavender shoes and pointing at the door at 10 o’clock at night.

People Footwear shoes are made with their trademarked SkyLite EVA. Described as a “super light and shock-absorbent material,” EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) is, simply put, rubberized foam. People Footwear styles are unisex and come in a variety of bold colours from toddler-size 4 all the way to men’s 13.

For the very confidently walking but still not running Little Miss Cub, (who at 20 months is on the petite side and wearing size 5 shoes) I chose the Phillips Kids sneaker in Origami Purple. The upper portion of the shoe is made with 3D-printed mesh and features elasticated laces that allow the shoe to stretch as we slide her foot in, yet still hold it firmly in place, even when her feet are dangling in the baby carrier or the shopping cart. I wish I’d had a pair of Peoples just like this for her brother when he was this age!

For preschool-prepster Cub, I chose the Stanley Kids model in Mariner Blue. Although very similar to the Phillips, the Stanley shoe doesn’t open as wide when sliding the foot in since there are only three laces versus the four on the Phillips, and the toe cap of the Stanley is mesh while the Phillips has a white EVA toe cap.

We’ve taken our People sneaks to the playground and the park with no complaints and plenty of compliments. I love how easily Cub can put them on himself, and it wouldn’t surprise me if his enterprising little sister soon knows how to pull hers on too.

If you’ve got travel plans this summer and luggage weight restrictions to contend with, everyone in your family needs a few pairs of People. These shoes are ridiculously lightweight while still being extremely comfortable. Plus, they’re easy to wipe clean.

Right now the kids are wearing them with socks, but before long these will be perfect summertime shoes that I can towel-dry if they get wet at the splash pad or rinse off if they get full of sand.

I also got a pair of Peoples … but I’m jealous of the closed-toed options I chose for my offspring. I ambitiously selected a pair of black Lennon sandals, and likely this optimistic choice activated the Murphy’s Law weather clause and brought snow upon southern Alberta in late April. (Sorry about that.) You’ll have to watch my Instagram feed to find pictures of my Lennons in action when it becomes appropriate to expose my toes … hopefully sooner rather than later!
