There was a very short window of time in my life when I wanted to look fancy. It was when I was fresh out of university and didn’t want to be mistaken for a student when sitting down to work with my class of high school students. Barely through the threshold of my front door, off came the blouse and the tailored pants, and on went the pajamas.
I have clearly found my fashion calling as a work-at-home Mom. What remains of my business casual wardrobe is in a plastic bin in my closet, and I’m not eager to dig it out any time soon.
Toronto’s Leave Nothing But Footprints (LNBF) designs “stylish pieces for women who refuse to sacrifice on comfort or quality.” Hey! That’s me! I don’t want to look sloppy, but I am not a slave to fashion. If it’s not comfortable I’m not going to wear it. And ethics are important to me: I’m trying to ween myself off of fast fashion, reducing quantity in favour of quality.
I chose four pieces from LNBF:
The Liv Jogger pants are jogging pants for people who don’t jog. They’re made of bamboo french terry and my goodness are they soft! The cuffs are tight at the ankles with a mesh detail that makes them just a little fancier than regular sweat pants, and the cut is much more flattering. I confess I often wear them all day, then they morph into pajamas at bedtime.
The Balance French Terry Top is my absolute favourite LNBF piece. The cowl neck isn’t usually my favourite style, but as soon as I pulled this sweater on, I was like… Oooooooh!
I love the tighter band of fabric at the waist, meaning it doesn’t ride up. The pockets are adorable, and I love thumb holes in my sweaters!
What I love best about this sweater is that it is as comfortable as a sweatshirt, but I don’t look frumpy! I wear it with my LNBF pants, but also with jeggings, leggings and skirts. (If you’re wondering how I nurse in it, I pair it with my Naked Nursing Tanks.)
The Jordan 2 Way Cardigan is a perfect piece for nursing and baby-wearing mamas! The cardigan can be worn “closed,” securing the drapey fabric with a zipper at one shoulder and a button at the other.
I know they call it the 2-way sweater, but I like wearing it a third way, with just one side done up:
Of course, you can also wear it open:
The drape of the fabric can easily double as a discreet nursing cover. And if you need something light to cover baby in the carrier…
… just do up your cardigan around her!
The Darcy Slim Pant is a straight-leg bamboo French terry pant with ruching at the back and forward to front side seams.
I actually expected them to fit a bit more like leggings, but they are not as snug-fitting, nor as curve-hugging. I’ve got long legs, and the Darcy pants are just a titch shorter on me than I would like. Being so used to wearing leggings and yoga pants with a higher Spandex content, the Darcy pants actually feel loose to me.
Our garments are milled, dyed and sewn at one location in China to keep the process simple. Because all of the world’s best bamboo textiles are grown in China, we have kept our supply chain in the same place. This reduces the environmental impact of shipping back and forth between our dyeing mills and sewing companies. We have strict standards to ensure quality control every step of the way from milling to yarn-dyeing, to the final construction of the garment with our suppliers.
