Bummis Potty Pant Review

Bummis Potty Pant Review
received-at-no-cost

Oh, potty training. All I can say about potty training Cub is that it has not gone according to plan. Okay, let me restate that: It has not gone according to my plan. Clearly, Cub has the best interests of his mother’s blog at heart. If he graduates into underwear, how can I review cloth trainers?

Every time I write a Bummis review, I have to emphasize my love of this Canadian company and cloth diaper trailblazer. Bummis recently merged with Mini Kiwi, creating a Montreal-based cloth diapering super équipe. The Bummis Potty Pant has been on my radar since it was released, when Cub was a long way away from toilet time. They look like real undies, are made in Canada, and I thought they looked particularly trim and comfortable when I picked up a pair for a friend.

Bummis Potty Pant Review ~ Maman Loup's Den ~ Side ViewCub received two XL pairs of Potty Pants to test out. The Potty Pant comes in four sizes, ranging from 18 lbs to 35 lbs +. Out of the box, I was concerned the XLs would be too big for him (he is exactly 35 lbs). I was pleasantly surprised that they fit perfectly.

Cub was very excited about the Circus and Vintage Robot prints. I was immediately in love with the stretchy, soft side panels that made them easy up and easy down.

The inside of the Potty Pant is lined with a natural cotton-hemp fabric, and its absorbent core contains one layer of long loop cotton terry and one layer of “a special fabric that is a mix of fibres from cotton, polyester and rayon from bamboo.”

When we first starting using the Potty Pant, Cub was not particularly reliable about telling me when he had to pee. The Potty Pant is not designed to contain a whole preschooler pee, and I didn’t expect it to. He certainly peed right through it, and into his pants. We put cloth trainers on hold over Christmas at my Mom’s place.

Back home in Calgary, I don’t have to worry about my Mom’s upholstery, so we are back in the potty-training saddle, and Cub seems much more ready than even a month ago.

Bummis Potty Pant Review ~ Maman Loup's Den ~ Front View on Cub

He knows he’s wearing “unders,” but he also does know that if a little pee escapes it won’t get onto his pants. His Potty Pants are perfect for catching the dribbles. He does have some accidents still, but he will tell me as soon as it happens, which gives us enough time to get him changed before he leaks onto the sofa or the floor. When he’s in an actual cloth diaper, he may or may not let me know that he’s peed, and if I don’t check in on the diaper situation, he will usually leak through to his pants because his day-time cloth diapers are no longer absorbent enough for his super pees.

Bummis Potty Pant Review ~ Maman Loup's Den ~ Back View on Cub

What we love about our Bummis Potty Pants:

  • Perfect fit: trim and adorable;
  • Made in Canada;
  • Stretchy side panels make them easy on and off;
  • Absorbent enough to catch small accidents;
  • Easy to launder thanks to a lack of microfibre;
  • Cub adores the Circus and Robots prints and wants to wear them when they’re clean. (“My Robots are still dry, Mom!”)

What we love less about our Bummis Potty Pants:

  • A bit longer to dry since the inner core is entirely sewn in (out of the dryer, I need to hang them overnight for them to be completely dry);
  • I would love to see a pocket opening in the Potty Pant which would speed up dry time, and mean I could add a booster for naps or potentially overnight.

Such a helpful review. Thank you!! I’m slowly convincing hubby that cloth trainers are our best route and your blog post helped me explain so much!

  2. Stéphanie Trottier

Thanks for this review. It is very interesting and helpfull!

  3. Jessie Coggins

Thank you for the review! We’re in the throws of potty training and switching from cloth diapers to underpants is proving our biggest challenge out of the house. Potty learning is NOT for the weak. I’m excited to try them as most other attempts at buying cloth trainers have ended in disappointment.

  4. Nicole Moore

I really appreciate the honesty, means I must be doing something right if we’re having the same things happen while potty training. And I’m SO glad to know these have an XL, as my 24 month old is too big for practically everything. 🙁 So we just might have to give these a try… If we ever get interested in using the potty. Sigh.

Thank you, i love knowing more about our Canadian companies and the quality of the products.

  6. Amanda Austin

Thanks for the review. I’ll look into buying a few of these. My son is almost three and I’ve been a bit frustrated with his lack of progress in potty training. I’m also starting to get tired of washing diapers every other day. It’s good to know that I’m not alone.

I just purchased 4 of these this week for my 2 year old potty trainer. I was really hoping they would work for nightime so I’m a bit sad to hear that they don’t seem hold very much. But I’m looking forward to trying them out and hoping that the easy on and off will allow our dressing routines to become something she can participate in more independently.

Thanks for the great review, I really like that there is no microfiber. When my son starts potty training these will be on my radar!

  9. Ashley morel

Thanks for the review. I am currently potty training my 2 year old for the past few months, right now he does best completely diaper free, but I would love to try these potty pants. Especially when company is over!

  10. Jo Fraser

Thank you for the review. I was wondering how these would work and this has given me some good info

  11. kara kudro

would love to try these potty pants, we cloth diaper and have two boys that are moving on to potty training.

  12. Amber Ludwig

Oh potty training is right lol!! I have been working with my kiddo and I swear he keeps awesome and then regresses again!! He does better away from home… which is so strange to me!! He gets super excited for new “underwears” though!! These are so super cute and I love that they are absorbent enough to take care of accidents!

  13. Wendi Niccole

Thanks for the great review. I’m getting prepped mentally to start potty training with my daughter. I’d love to try these!

  14. Jennifer Odom

I’m happy to hear these for longer than the average trainer! My son could use a pair!

  15. I’m so glad to know that they don’t have microfiber. Makes me want the even more!

  16. Becky G

This review was helpful. I will have to look into these trainers after reading your review.

  17. Based on your thorough review, these seem great for my friend who gave me all her fluff due to potty training her 2 year old. I’d love to win for her!

  18. Meagen Leiby

Thanks for the review we have started potty training and could use some training pants the no pants trick isn’t working lol

  19. Amanda G

This review comes at the perfect time, we’re just starting potty training with our youngest. I’m finding though our current training pants hold a little too much, she tends to use it as a diaper so these may work better if they’re for partial accidents instead of full blown pees.

  20. Isabelle Lagadec

Je suis en plein dans l’apprentissage de la propreté avec ma fille, quel beau timing pour lire ton appréciation! 🙂 Je suis d’ailleurs bien d’accord avec l’idée de la poche!

  21. Melissa g

These look great. Would love to try them. My daughter is 18 months so we are approaching potty training. These would be affordable for us.

  22. Amy

Thank you for the thorough review! We’re almost to potty training time, and I’ve been agonizing over what training pants to go with. This was so helpful!

  23. Amy

Fave part: “lined with a natural cotton-hemp fabric” – so important to me!

  24. Elizabeth Matthiesen

What a great review, thanks so much. I didn’t realise this was a Canadian firm which gives big plus points in my view. Love the design too, a lovely print that any child would enjoy.

  25. Carole Dube

Thank you for this great review. I love that it’s a Canadian company. My daughter is going to start training my granddaughter and this would be perfect. Love the colours!

  26. Camille W

I love these reviews – keep them coming! We’re not quite there yet but I’m filing these away…

  27. Mylène Bélanger

I feel your pain… my girl too has her own plan and it was way later then mine but when she was really ready by herself, 1 week and she was train day and night. I and she would have love those, they look very comfy. I’ll take a mental note to buy at least one like those one for my boy.

  28. Leah

I planned on using cloth but ended up using disposable after an unexpected move (no laundry on site). I plan to start potty training in the spring and would love these potty pants for my daughter.

  29. These look like a great cloth trainer option! I love those stretchy sides. A pocket opening would be an awesome addition!

  30. Recipe Fairy

This is too adorable!! I’d love to have it when I start potty training!

  31. kathy downey

Thank you so much for posting this review,It is very interesting and helpful

  32. Jen H

I really like that they dont have snaps. i know thats wierd but my son wont use a trainer that looks like a diaper but we still need good absorbency for accidents when were out!

  33. The pattern is very fun and bright!Starting the training with reusable underwear will save so much money as well as the garbage that wont be created. (I tried the http:/ instead of https:/ and it says my page cant be found . I put back the s)

  34. Ashley Chassereau Parks

I really love the side panels on this pair of potty pants! That would make it so much easier for my little one to pull up and down by herself!!

  35. Susanne

I think I should look into starting my trainer stash now! These look so nice and comfy, I think my daughter would love these 🙂

  36. Christine Cee

I loooooove that these are made in canada. thanks for the wonderful review 🙂

  37. Shannon

I wonder how my little one would do with potty pants? I worry that if they are too thick, that they will feel like his cloth diapers and then he won’t want to avoid peeing in them. Any cloth mamas have that problem with cloth trainers, or am I over thinking it?

  38. Sarah Sobocinski

Great review. I agree that there should be a pocket.

  39. nicky

thanks for the review! looks like a wonderful product, very comfy, and cute prints!

Thanks for your review! We are about to begin potty training and it’s good to know the different options that are out there.

  42. Kristen Starks

Thanks for the review! I love how trim they are, and that they have stretchy sides to make them easy to get on and off!

  43. Rachael VanDyke

Thanks for the review! I think these would be great to potty train my next with!

  44. Amélie L.

I was considering buying a pair for my daughter so it’s nice to hear good things about them!

  45. Cassandra Marie

I am a long way from needing this, but it never hurts to think ahead! I’m so glad that there are options for potty training when the time comes.

  46. Jennie Dzielak

These are so cute! They would have really come in handy when we were recently potty training our youngest! As far as your ‘cons’, they do look trim…but I still wonder if you couldn’t place a doubler in for naps and overnight. It might be just the thing for him to wake up without it leaking!

  47. I can’t wait to try Potty Pants on my little! 🙂

  48. cornelia

Totally need to try this on N! He is on his own schedule also ?

  49. Sunnie

Good review! This is a cute print!

  50. laura b

I have never considered that they made cloth reusable training pants. Love it!

  51. Lisa Weeks

    Great photos were definitely ready.!

  52. maranda carlson

Can’t wait to here “mommy my robots are still dry”, cute and do look easy to pull on and off I also like how the tag isn’t scratchy on the inside.

  53. Joy D

Thanks for your honest review, no surprises for this grandmother.

  54. Kristen M.

It’s interesting that they’ve used basically every natural fibre in the book. But if it works than that’s what matters! I’d like to use Canadian-made trainers when the time comes, and I like the look of these better than the AC ones. I think I could handle the extra drying time vs. trying to stuff…

  55. DeLo

    Such an adorable pattern!

  56. Eileen

I’ve never heard of these but you have me interested in trying them. They’re so cute, too!

  57. karen s

    So cute

  58. Denise Beeman

My guy is only 13 months and we are potty training but I don’t think we are quite ready for this level of trainer but it is so good to know that they are out there. I like the idea of buying these instead of little kid underwear for the first year or so to catch those little dribbles.

  59. Melissa F

My husband saw these trainers where I commented on FB and he said he loves the print! Lol, its so hard to get him into the cuteness of cloth. I think these would fit my daughter better than the handme down raining pants we have now. I like the look of the fit on Cub.

  60. Linda

I have been thinking more about potty training as my son reaches that age. These potty pants look like they would be very useful.

  61. Lauryn R

Thank you so much for your fantastic and thorough review of their training pants! My son just turned 3 and has been in pull ups. Which are not effective for training, don’t fit right (they are 4T-5T) and they give him a bad rash as well. He’s a big boy though, with huge hips and thighs lol. I wonder if XL would be a good fit for him?

  62. Trista

    So neat!

  63. Annie

I wish this review was done 1 year ago when we started potty training our daughter. She is now just wearing training pants during naps and night time. I sure would love to try a pair of these.

Such a learning review for for first time mom. My son is too young to potty train, but this review will be bookmarkes on my laptop for the potty training days.

  66. jordan alice

Thank you for the review, I really enjoy your style/choices! The ponies are so cute as well!

  67. Amy Hall

Never heard of these before and I really like the looks of it, Would love to win, we’ll be potty training soon!

  68. Martha

Great review! I’m trying to decide if I want to add a cloth trainer that’s a step down from diapers but a step up from the cloth trainers I currently have for night time and naps. This was incredibly helpful!

  69. Marian

Going to start potty training my son soon. We got a few cloth trainers during the black Friday sales. The Bummis trainer looks really nice, I like their nice range of sizes and their cute prints. Would be nice to win one 🙂 Thank you for the review and giveaway.

  70. my LO is only 8 mo but I will def be trying these when we r ready. thanks for the awesome review as always

  71. sabina edwards

from the pictures you’ve posted I’m pretty sure this is what I’m wanting to buy. I aim for cloth first

  72. Jessica Lodge

Thank you for giving both the pluses and minuses of this training pant. I love an honest review!! These look great and I definitely need to get away from the Huggies pull ups. My son seems to be digressing since we bought them.

  73. Ruth Entwistle

I would love to try these. With a three year old who is “stubborn” and an almost 2 year old “curious” these would be great!

  74. Laura

Potty training is never fun! But cute cloth training pants like these always help!

  75. Sandra Caballero

I have two super undies for my baby girl. But now with this review I’m thinking of getting bummis for when my baby girl is ready to potty train.
