What’s a duck dog? Oh, no, sorry, that’s Cub’s eternal question thanks to Dr. Seuss. My cloth diapering question, for quite some time, was: “What’s a RONO?” Dr. Seuss would be proud that I now know what a RONO is and if you DONO, it’s a hybrid fitted overnight diaper made by Canadian WAHM, Hollee, at Butt Ons! RONO stands for Right-On-Night-On, and in its IttyBitty version looks like this:
I suspect it would depend a lot on your baby’s build whether or not you’d find the RONO to be too much junk in her trunk when she’s super wee. Perhaps a thinner insert might be in order for the tiniest of babes?
While not my favourite overnight option due to the bulkiness of the insert, the RONO definitely performed well. While some babes wear hybrid fitted diapers without a cover due to the water-repellent properties of fleece, I definitely needed to put a cover on Little Miss Cub. Of course, with the diaper itself already quite bulky, this was a bit tricky. While I’m sure woollies on top would have been super leakproof, it was just too much bulk. We used our newborn PUL covers instead and there were no leaks come morning (about 9-10 hours).
I love the fit of the fleece RONO cover, and I love the ingredients in the insert. What I would suggest as an improvement would be an insert that is larger in terms of dimensions, but smaller in terms of thickness. I’m just hypothesizing, but perhaps a 2-ply insert that could be folded in a variety of ways to suit baby’s build would avoid the “butt in the air” effect I had when Little Miss was first born.
