Ella Bella Bum Review

Ella Bella Bum review

I received this item free for review. All opinions remain my own.

Am I crazy to think that Ella Bella Bum diapers have a cult-like following? (Not a scary cult, a happy, fluff-loving cult!) These made-in-Canada creations are ridiculously popular, with product stockings selling out like Justin Bieber tickets back in his heyday. (Isn’t it nice that his heyday is over?)

So what’s all the fuss about? Let’s take a look:

2014-11-04 12.17.24Obviously, the diaper is gorgeous. The matchy-matchy of the solid PUL, the snaps, the inner jersey and the wrap around print is just, well, perfection.

It is immediately obvious, even to my untrained eye, that this is a meticulously crafted diaper.

Ella Bella Bum ReviewIn terms of fit, I haven’t a complaint in sight. The rise is nice and high even on my tall boy (who gets plumber’s crack in some brands), and we haven’t had any leaks.

 I’m so sad that it’s winter and I can’t let him run around in just his EBB all day, all the time!

What I love about our EBB:

  • The fit is ample even on a 30-lb, tall, toddler;
  • Athletic wicking jersey is hands down my favourite “stay dry” pocket fabric. It launders much easier than the more commonly-used fleece;
  • The colours are so carefully matched on all aspects of the diaper;
  • There’s a lot more stretch to the waist than other brands, including BumGenius;
  • The placement of the closure snaps is my favourite (two rows of closure snaps) and I don’t miss the hip snap at all.
  • It’s made in Canada by Sam and her small team of WAHMs.

What I love less about our EBB:

  • You know what, the only thing I don’t love is the insert. I find it is just too thick for our needs. It may be perfect for heavy wetters: it’s a bamboo/zorb combo that you can fold up and snap depending on the rise of the diaper. I never used the included booster with the insert, but I did love the booster in other diapers! I prefer the fit of our EBB with our Öko hemp trifold. Trimmer, and, in our case, plenty absorbent. Luckily, EBB pocket diapers can be purchased without inserts!

Conclusion:

Is it weird that I kinda think that every cloth-diapered baby should get to wear an EBB? Well, that’s what I think.

To get your hands on an EBB of your very own, keep a close watch on the EBB Facebook Page for stocking details, shop right away for the solid-colour Ella’ssentials online, and if you’re looking for second-hand (not necessarily cheaper) EBBS, join the Facebook B/S/T group.

Update 10/28/2015: EBBs are now also available from two awesome Canadian retailers: Lollypop Kids & Cozy Bums!

Have you tried an EBB?

      Hihihihi! Définitivement!

    I agree with most of this! I love EBB as well, the stretch makes them easy to put on a squirmy baby or toddler and the AWJ is awesome! To me they are similar to Bum Genius but the fit is much better for us (my daughter gets tummy gaps with BG). I’m not a fan of the inserts either. I have thinner ones that are just as absorbent. But the boosters are great!
    I do wish there was a hip snap though. My daughter is a slim 15 month old and all the snaps are done up at the waste so the extra material kind of droops a bit. I think a hip snap would help with that.
    And you were right about the cult following, the EBB BST has a wonderful community feel to it.

      I agree about needing hip snaps. Recently I’m noticing the “droop” from the inner tabs. BUT other than that, I have ZERO complaints about my EBBs. I love them to death. I have never had a leak and they are the best fit on my baby.

  3. Have not tried one yet myself, but if baby number three ever makes an appearance I think I might have to try one!

    It’s about time you tried it out! I got my gateway diaper two weeks ago. Bought two more already, and I really don’t need a larger stash

    My whole stash is slowly becomin mostly all Ebb’s. I was introduced to them in May of this year and own 14 now with more on the way. They are great diapers and finding the only ones (besides my fitted) that are staying leak free. The BST is like a little family. Lots of chatter as well as showing off our fluff mail amongst the buying and selling. Also there is a custom mini group page worth mentioning where you can get almost any fabric made into a wrap around! And there is a wait but well worth it!

    Can you do a comparison between the ebb insert and an amp 2 layer hemp and oko? Cheers 🙂
