I actually remember my very first agenda. I remember the year in primary school when we found out we would be receiving OFFICIAL, pre-printed school planners. They hadn’t arrived for September, so we all begrudgingly recorded important messages and homework assignments in lined notebooks… and then…. THEY ARRIVED! I quickly learned the pleasure of viewing an entire year in advance and filling in important dates neatly and with the appropriate pen. I looked forward, each year, to personalizing my agenda with stickers and strategically-pasted magazine photos.
True story and side note: my Mom kept every school planner from every year of elementary school, and I still have all of my agendas since high school. While leafing through a grade-school planner, I found a note from my Mom to my teacher: “Please note that if Lindsay seems sad today, it’s because her hamster, Midget, died.” (I know that should tug at the heart strings, but it made me laugh because I remember milking the death of that hamster for all it was worth.)
So ya, I have a thing for planning, organization and colour-coding. I’m a teacher’s dream! (That’s partially why I became a teacher, I suspect.)
Every year when it’s time to shop for a new agenda, I spend hours leafing through everything on offer. The size has the be perfect. The binding has the be perfect. The way the days are laid out has to be perfect. I never find anything that’s perfect!
But then I found out I could design MY OWN planner and have it shipped straight to my door! #MindBlown
Once you’ve chosen the size for your agenda (plenty of sizes to choose from), the next step at Personal-Planner.com is to design your front and back cover, right down to the colour of the elastic closure! You can choose your own images, a solid colour or a pre-loaded design.
Then, you get to figure out what your pages will look like. What colour or design do you want across the top? You can even enter all your important dates in advance, and your planner will arrive, well, already planned! Do you want the hours of the day listed for very precise planning? How should the extra space be filled? I chose to have a meal planner and then three to-do lists:
At the front of the book, you can fill in your owner info in case your planner gets lost.
The entire planner-design process took me under 15 minutes (if I’d had the patience to input my important dates, it would’ve taken longer, but I decided I didn’t want to break my tradition of doing them by hand).
When I received my planner, I was very satisfied with the result. It’s one thing to see it in an on-screen preview, another to hold it in your hands and feel the quality and weight of the pages, the flexible but durable binding and the sharpness of the images. I kind of wish I’d had my agenda printed to start in December 2014 rather than January 2015 so I could start using it right away!
There isn’t really anything I’d change about the planner I created, since, after all, I created it exactly how I wanted it to be! One option that I’d like to see available would be to start each month with a full calendar so I can see the month at a glance easily. And, I’m reaching a bit, but maybe if the corners of each page were perforated, that would be helpful to rip off the corner of completed weeks to make it easier to flip to the current week.
