How to Use Ebates.ca and Shop.ca (and possibly PayPal) to Save Big!

Use Ebates.ca, Shop.ca and PayPal to Save Big!Have you signed up yet for Ebates.ca and Shop.ca? I did last year, and then I kind of forgot about it until yesterday when I received a PayPal deposit of $10 from Ebates, a kind of cash-back on past purchases.

Note that my links to both sites are my unique referral links. If you have friends or family members already using either of these sites, ask them to refer you so they can get the credit!

What are Ebates.ca and Shop.ca?

Ebates.ca allows you to earn cash back on your purchases at participating online merchants. For example, if you click through to Amazon.ca via Ebates, you will receive a percentage back on whatever you purchase, credited a few days later to your Ebates account. At set times each year, you will receive your cash back either by cheque or straight into your PayPal account. So far I’ve received $92.22 in cash back!

Shop.ca is an online shopping (duh) site where many, many retailers post items for sale. The prices themselves are comparable to other online and brick & mortar merchants,  but when you are a new user to Shop.ca, you get $15 off your first $100 purchase.

Since Shop.ca is one of the many partners of Ebates.ca, your purchases at Shop.ca count towards Ebates cash back. Normally you get 3.5% cash back from purchases made at Shop.ca, but I just found out that right now with Ebates.ca’s Back-to-School promo, they’ve doubled the cash back to equal 7%.

Shop.ca also allows you to refer friends and share products to earn store credit you can also apply to purchases.

How does PayPal help you save even more?

If you’re lucky, you may have received notification from PayPal that you are eligible for a limited time Shop.ca new user credit, where they take $20 off you first purchase of at least $60. I used this promotion last year, and I tell you all about the awesome Steve Madden boots I scored here!

Okay, let’s do this!

1 – Sign up for Ebates.ca

2- Sign up for Shop.ca… ideally when you open up the site, you should see something like this:

shop.ca

**Update, October 17: This offer is over, however coupon code RETAILMENOT10OFF40 saves $10 off a $40 purchase

3- CRITICAL STEP… Navigate to Shop.ca VIA Ebates.ca. You can type Shop.ca into the top search bar, then click through to visit Shop.ca. It’s working if you see this:

shop.ca success

Update, October 17: Shop.ca is currently at 20% cash back!

4- Make your purchase(s)! You can use the Retail Me Not coupon code at checkout and IF you have the PayPal offer to claim, you’ll see that deducted when you are directed to PayPal to pay. (The process is explained here.) Your ebates cash back is paid our quarterly, and will show soon on your ebates account.

What should I buy?

Well, who am I to tell you what you need? But, of course, I thought I’d point out that you can score some AppleCheeks…

If you have your $15 credit, plus 7% cash back and a $20 PayPal credit, you’re looking at some great savings, just like I got on my Steven Madden boots!

Check out how to earn Shop.ca Loyalty cash by sharing via social media…. this will increase your savings.

Also, if you collect Aeroplan Miles (that’s one of the few points programs I don’t use), you can earn them on all Shop.ca purchases.

So, go try it out! Let me know how much you were able to save, and remember to always pass through Ebates.ca when shopping online to make sure you get cash back.

Wow, very savvy! Thanks for sharing these tips. I have pinned this post so I can remember to sign up when I’m on a real computer (I find filling out online forms on a small screen annoying). This will come in handy when I start Christmas shopping. 🙂

The last time I ordered from shop.ca, it was 15% cash back with ebates and I forgot to use it. I was so distraught I almost cancelled my order and ordered everything again, just to get the rebate!
