Disclosure: I received this product free for review.
I’d been using Attitude products for a while when I saw a news story on how they were making waves with a new “Carcinogen Free” label. “Good for them!” I remember thinking. Is it a sales tactic? Yes. Does it hopefully make consumers pause for a second and consider what ingredients are in their household products? I sure hope so.
If the “Carcinogen Free” label does nothing more than sway a Febreze Fanatic to grab a bottle of Attitude instead, then I’m a happy camper:
- Most fabric deodorizers on the market are rated between a C and an F according to the EWG: they contain substances that are proven to be harmful for our bodies and for the environment.
- Most contain the frighteningly vague ingredient of “Fragrance,” which can cover any number of unregulated natural and man-made substances. According to the Canadian Lung Association, the term “Fragrance” on a product can mean a mixture of between 100-350 ingredients, 95% of which “are synthetic compounds made from petroleum.”
To justify their “Carcinogen Free” label, ATTITUDE tells us their products are free of 1,4-Dioxane and Ethylene Oxide, two proven carcinogens found in a startling array of body care and home cleaning products.
Aside from alcohol and water, ATTITUDE Little Ones Fabric Refresher contains:
Zinc ricinoleate (EWG score: 1) (From Castor Seeds) — Deod0rizer
lauryl glucoside (EWG score: 0) (From Coconut) — Surfactant
myristyl glucoside (EWG score: 0) (Sugar-based, plant derived) — Surfactant
sodium iminodisuccinate – Chelating agent **Biodegradable and non-toxic** (unlike most chelating agents)

Maman Loup’s Verdict:
With a busy bee toddler and two cats around, the sofa and the carpet are two spots that are hard to wash but could sometimes use some refreshing. I find the Febreze commercials where blind-folded victims inhale a fragrance-cocktail masking the smell of rotten food or putrid athletic equipment abhorrent. I don’t recommend a deodorizer in lieu of cleaning! But washing my sofa covers or my carpet happens but once in a blue moon, and those are two surfaces that get a bit stinky and on which Cub spends lots of time.
Since I’m away from home right now, and my Mom’s house has no stinky surfaces to speak of (and I sniffed even the dog beds…) I tested our bottle in my stinky Padraig slippers, and found them to be decidedly less stinky. Nothing replaces a good washing with soap, but they take ages to dry and I can’t bear a day barefoot!
I wouldn’t touch your average fabric deodorizer with a ten-foot pole, and I certainly wouldn’t spritz it anywhere near my son. So if you want to freshen up your upholstery or carpet without exposing your children and pets to some of the worst-ranked chemicals by the EWG, I’d definitely recommend some ATTITUDE!
I have almost nothing in my house that Cub can’t touch: we have no scary cupboard of toxic household cleaners… so I”m happy that I need not fear him taking a turn squirting our bottle of ATTITUDE (with lots of attitude, as you can see in these pictures…)
Bonus points: ATTITUDE is a Canadian company, with headquarters in Montreal. They are are ECOlogo certified and CO2 Neutral. YAY!!
