I received this item free for review. All opinions remain my own.
In case you missed it, I already reviewed Mini Kiwi’s
poutine pocket diaper. Now it’s time to take a look at their AIO!
Confession: I don’t use a lot of AIOs, and overall I prefer pockets (or AIOs that are constructed like a pocket, such as TotsBots). This is a personal preference, and nothing to detract from the quality of this diaper!
Mini Kiwi’s AIO is what I like to term “tongue style.” Heaven only knows what weirdos may happen upon this blog post based on that Google search term now, but too bad, that’s what I call it. (And if you are, in fact, reading this by mistake… have your considered cloth diapering for your offspring?!)
As you can see, the main insert is completely attached to the diaper on one end (you know, like how your tongue is attached to your mouth!). The second insert snaps in and can be added or removed as needed. “Tongue style” inserts allow for a faster dry-time than inserts that are completely sewn to the diaper.
This style of AIO is also very “no fuss, no muss” for daycare or Dads (I realize Dads get a bad rap for being clueless about cloth diapers, and I know that’s not the case for all Dads, but my husband put Cub in just an ordinary fitted, without a cover, and stuck him his car seat… also without pants) since there are no loose pieces. It’s also a style that makes laundry day a breeze, since you don’t need to stuff all your pockets.
The top layer of the diaper’s inner is charcoal bamboo. I confess, I don’t really “get” charcoal bamboo and am not convinced that it is a miracle diaper fiber. However, I definitely appreciate that it is black. I mean, who decided the inside of a poop-catcher ought to be white?
As for the fit, like the pocket diaper, the fit of a MiniKiwi AIO is quite similar to that of a BumGenius Freetime (which also has the “tongue style” inserts, but neither are detachable). Also differentiating it from the Freetime is the double gusset at the leg.
I don’t have a BG Freetime on hand to make a true comparison, but was told by one of my readers that Mini Kiwi’s design fits more generously on her big boy. As you can see in the pictures above, the fit is perfect on my nearly 30-lber!
Besides the great fit, we had no leaks and no issues with poop-containment. Bonus: it dries overnight! (Some AIOs can take forever to dry.)
So what about you? Are you more in to pockets or AIOs?
